Ce este o procedură de lifting de sinus?

The sinus lift procedure involves the insertion of a sinus graft, which allows for the placement of dental implants when the underside of the sinus wall is very thin, by lifting the sinus membrane. Its objective is to increase the bone level vertically and horizontally on the floor of the sinus.

The maxillary sinuses are located behind the cheeks and above the upper back teeth (premolars and molars) and are actually formed from cavities within the skull bone, resembling empty compartments. On their walls, there is a sinus lining, appearing like a balloon stuck in this space. The interior of the balloon is the actual sinus.

To improve the bone support in the upper jaw, particularly when there isn't enough bone for dental implants.
Years ago, there was no other option for resolving dental problems apart from wearing dentures. Nowadays, we can provide fixed prosthetics through bridges and crowns on implants, but dental implants need bone to be fixed to. If there isn't enough bone, the sinus lifting procedure is applied, by which a graft is created, upon which, after maturation, the implant can subsequently be inserted.

Sinus lifting is indicated when the height or volume of the maxillary sinus floor is insufficient for the placement of dental implants. This commonly occurs due to bone resorption after tooth loss, pneumatisation of the sinus (the sinus becoming larger), or anatomical anomalies.
Intervention is indicated when the (bone) wall beneath the sinus is very thin, making the insertion of dental implants impossible.

The operation can be performed

  • if the vertical bone height is less than 10mm,
  • if the bone width on the horizontal plane is less than 3mm and the height does not exceed 8mm
  • if the floor of the maxillary sinus is between 3 and 5 mm at its minimum

What are the contraindications for a sinus lift?

  • people with haemophilia
  • adults with decompensated diabetes
  • individuals with a bone structure, low bone density, and bone thickness less than 3mm,
  • Women, during menstruation

How is a sinus lift performed?
The sinus lift intervention is a more complex surgical procedure, performed in the operating theatre under perfectly aseptic conditions, using a laser and a piezotome. It involves placing freeze-dried bone inside the sinus. This bone is left for several months to integrate with the patient's jawbone. Subsequently, after maturation, it becomes a perfect support for the insertion of dental implants.
