{"id":367,"date":"2013-06-18T12:52:56","date_gmt":"2013-06-18T12:52:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chiromax.ro\/?p=367"},"modified":"2013-06-18T12:52:56","modified_gmt":"2013-06-18T12:52:56","slug":"gravida-si-stomatologul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chiromax.ro\/en\/gravida-si-stomatologul\/","title":{"rendered":"The Pregnant Woman and the Dentist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A pregnant patient requires special attention from the dentist because, although considered \u201ehealthy\u201d, she must be protected from stress and anxiety, all due to the physiological and emotional changes her body is undergoing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among these changes we can list:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an increase in blood volume of 50%, tachycardia and a physiological heart murmur;<\/li>\n<li>Hypertensive syndrome with sudden postural changes in advanced pregnancy;<\/li>\n<li>anaemia, alterations in coagulation factors;<\/li>\n<li>modification of connective tissue in blood vessels;<\/li>\n<li>Hormonal changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The metabolic changes that occur in a pregnant woman's body can favour the onset of oral complications such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gum bleeding caused by local irritant factors which can be combated through correct oral hygiene practices;<\/li>\n<li>The \u201epregnancy tumour\u201d is very rare, the gums grow in volume, covering the teeth, bleeding very easily when touched, and are only painful in case of superinfection. The tumour is not malignant, being histopathologically an angiogranuloma.;<\/li>\n<li>The progression of tooth decay can be accelerated by changes in diet, but certainly not because calcium is lost from the mother's teeth. The calcium supplement for the foetus can be ensured by a diet rich in calcium.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To prevent all these potential complications, the dentist's recommendation includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thorough cleaning of teeth after meals to reduce dental plaque.;<\/li>\n<li>the use of fluoride-rich mouthwash solutions, in the form of rinses after brushing;<\/li>\n<li>A nutrient-rich food that is high in vitamins (A, C, D), calcium, and phosphorus, and has as little sugar and carbohydrates as possible, as the latter contribute to the development of dental plaque.;<\/li>\n<li>I have a dental check-up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the event that current dental treatments are necessary, the safest period is the second trimester of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prosthetic or periodontal treatments will be postponed until after birth, with only emergencies being addressed. Very often, pregnant patients are afraid of having anaesthetics administered. They are dangerous in the first trimester of pregnancy, along with the vast majority of medications. During this period, fetal organogenesis (the formation of all organs) takes place, and the fetus must be protected from the mutagenic risk of medicinal substances. Starting from the second trimester of pregnancy, lidocaine, prilocaine, and bupivacaine can be used.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is important to note that the following should be avoided during pregnancy: dental X-rays, especially in the first trimester; and the administration of tetracycline, as it can affect the child's dental structure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the first trimester, dental treatment is not recommended (except for professional cleaning and pain management), due to the risk of miscarriage. The second trimester is the best for routine treatments without endangering the health of the mother or fetus, while in the last trimester, dental treatment should ideally be avoided (risk of premature birth).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To contribute to the proper development of a child's teeth, it is recommended to administer sodium fluoride from the fourth month of pregnancy (2 mg per day). This additional fluoride intake will benefit the baby's milk teeth, which begin to form as early as the eighth week.
